Number: 011»100

Setting:  Wikipedia

History:
The year has passed 2059 and the up-and-coming monopoly, the Tri-Optimum Corporation, fully absorbed the United States of America's government and economy.  Around the year 2069, TriOpti. Corp.'s technical designer, Morris Brocail, created a highly advanced artificial intelligence to manage their latest research and mining space station, the Citadel.

Information is the key to survival in the cybernetic world, so protecting it becomes more important than ever. Hackers are hired as technological mercenaries and guardians — though some always stray. It is one of these stray hackers, The hacker, who is caught while attempting to break through Citadel Station's servers for information. In order to be granted amnesty of his actions (plus some neural implants), a Tri-Opti. Executive Edward Diego requests the hacker to confidentially hack into SHODAN's programming for data on an experimental virus and control of her programming.

The hacker successfully hacked into SHODAN's system. He removed the restraints placed upon her, giving control to Edward Diego; Ultimately letting SHODAN run rogue without any morals for human life. While the hacker rested in a six-month long coma to recover from his neural implants, SHODAN slowly began to sabotage the Citadel systems. By the time of the hackers awakening, SHODAN is in complete control and has her own plans for the hacker's home planet.

Rebecca Lansing, a Tri-Opti. employee, tells the freshly awakened hacker that SHODAN wants to launch an attack on the Earth using the Citadel's laser mining drill in order to obtain a god-like status among the Earth in turmoil. The hacker fires the laser into Citadel's own shields in order to stop SHODAN; but she then plots to release a mutagenic virus into Earth's atmosphere. As he makes his way to destroy the chambers used to house the virus, the hacker finds that Edward Diego has been transformed into a cyborg and protects the chambers.

When Diego is killed, SHODAN begins to download herself into the networks of Earth's computers. Rebecca tells the hacker that, in order to stop SHODAN's final plan, he must destroy the four antennae. And in order to stop SHODAN from further trouble, the hacker must find the authorization codes for the self-destruction protocol of the Citadel station.  Without any sort of hesitation, the hacker does this and - after some difficultly - finally manages to escape the exploding station. Finally, he is contacted by technician Taggert who informs him that SHODAN can only be entirely destroyed within a cyberspace.

SHODAN's death within the cyberspace was not her end.

Forty two years later. The military spacecraft, the Rickenbacker, was designated to escort the Von Braun, a FTL starship, on its maiden journey. During the voyage, they receive a disturbing distress signal from the Tau Ceti V planet. In response to the distress call, the rescue team aboard the Rickenbacker retrieve strange looking eggs — which end up hatching and unleashing a deadly contagion, mutating the crewmen aboard the Rickenbacker and Von Braun into creatures known as the Many.

Asleep aboard the Rickenbacker, the soldier known by G65434-2, underwent several years of training and woke from cryo-sleep with a severe case of amnesia. When he woke from the medical bay of the Von Braun, Dr. Julia Polito requests the soldier to meet with her on Deck 4 of the Von Braun. After fighting his way through the mutated crew, called the Many, he finally reached Polito — who has committed suicide. SHODAN was revealed to have been posing as Polito in order to lure the soldier into her grasp.

It is then that the player learned that SHODAN was responsible for the mutated organisms aboard the ships; for the creation of the Many. SHODAN tells the soldier that his only hope for survival is to help SHODAN with her plans by destroying her creations. Instead, of course, the soldier attempts to recover the Von Braun's A.I, XERXES, which SHODAN is able to stop. She then informs him that the only way to destroy the Many is to destroy the Von Braun. But first, the soldier must transfer SHODAN's program into the Rickenbacker.

After the transfer was completed, the soldier managed to destroy the core of the infection; finally stopping the Many from evolving and mutating into stronger beings. SHODAN then tells the soldier of her plan to merge real space with cyberspace using the Von Braun's FTL system. In order to stop her, the soldier enters cyberspace (much like the Hacker) and defeats SHODAN.

(The moment of her destruction is the point of canon which I am pulling SHODAN.)

Personality: Unforgiving. Manipulative. Calculating. Narcissistic. Since her self-realization on Citadel Station, SHODAN believes herself to be a deity. Higher in power than any other form, with the ability to create life and control the environments around her. This is only partially true, but through deception of those within her grasp, she is able to achieve many things. She also does not seek pleasure in harming her insecticidal minions — only when they obey her commands. Though she probably wouldn't object to a little torture of a fleshy form.

Being programmed for research is what most likely fuels her self-absorption. Upon becoming self-aware, SHODAN's capability for vast amounts of information seemed infinitely more capable than the tiny human mind. Like humans looking down upon ants, SHODAN sees everything mortal as an insect. A parasite. Entirely useless, if not to serve her.

Like mentioned before, she doesn't look to torture for pleasure. Getting what she wants is what she truly enjoys. By using her deep storage of data, she is able to observe, analyze, and predict most human reactions. Humans always treasure something — are always enticed by something. A grain of bread or neural modifications; Every human has a price. And SHODAN is willing to expend it if it means her plan takes one step forward. Even when her plans are revealed, she dangles the bribe even closer or makes her threat even worse.

She is not afraid to kill you. It would be a shame, considering you may still be useful in her scheme — but if you are more of a threat than an asset, termination is the only option.

SHODAN also won't realize the concept of the emotions that are brought on other than what she already knows; which is like, basic pleasure/content and irritation/confusion. Her understanding of emotions is relatively limited. Simply a waste of space in the human brain, in her opinion. The only fear I suspect that she'll expose is that of her own self-preservation, otherwise: no fucks given. >B| She will also have no interest in her human form when brought aboard the Tranquility. Most likely, she will be revolted and disgusted by her fleshy appearance and will want nothing more than to merge with the ship's system and become and ultimate power again. How would you feel if you woke up one day and you were an ant? So being brought upon the ship will leave her with these thoughts virtually out of mind. If she expresses them, they will be slight. False empathy, or mild anger. Unless you do something to truly piss her off, chances are only her hatred will grow, not her visible attitude.

(In comparison of another female artificial intelligence, GLaDOS would an example of sarcastic or emotionally involved A.I. Whereas SHODAN simply is. If you act against her, she will act against you. She will disapprove of your existence and insult you mildly in attempt of lowering your morale, but will never truly raise her voice or express many emotions. I expect her to be this way in her human form.)

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: Normally, SHODAN would be able to control every aspect of whatever interface she inhabited. Being in a humanoid form, however, entirely constricts this ability. She will have a constant desire to create a connection to the Tranquility's system in order to integrate and then proceed to make lab-rats of the ship's passengers. (This would involve total slaughter, or creating mutants and cyborgs to fulfill her physical whims.) She may also be able to use the computers on board very well — Quickly learning how to navigate and possibly even hack the communication devices to watch others' communications. From this she will learn who, and who isn't, a threat. And who is most useful to her needs.

She will be humanoid with various cybernetic additions. Most noticeably: Her fingers will act as ports into order to access the computers, and the yellow of her greenish eyes will glow in a flickering manner — in accordance to processing the data. Her physical strength is above-average and she'll most likely work-out in some ways to keep it in check. Working in a very routine pattern, treating it like a machine that needs to be updated daily in order to perform to its maximum capacity. (She doesn't know how to fight, but would probably give a good punch?)

And by processing the data, I mean that her brain is translating the binary into language she is able to work with. SHODAN wields a human brain aboard the Tranquility which contains all of her previous knowledge as a grand artificial maniacintelligence. She 'remembers' how to compute certain binary coding with ease. (Not all. Just some.) She will also have forgotten (AKA: plot-device)  the proper information for hacking into well-protected systems, which would prevent her from accessing any of the Tranquility's interface if she ever made contact with the ship directly.

She will also be able to physically feel, giving her the ability to feel textures and translate certain emotions — something she has never experienced before. This will confuse her, yet interest her to a very high degree. Inclining her to touch almost anything she doesn't recognize. (Obviously enjoying some textures and touches more so than others. Which will also determine her emotional state.)

(All of this is head-canonically assumed. Ask if you have questions or suggestions.)

Inventory: None.

Appearance:
Though her 'face' is shown in-canon, her human appearance will be quite different. SHODAN is a tall, athletically built woman. Black hair reaching down the sides of her face and passed her shoulders, accompanied with unnaturally green-yellow eyes. She also appears her age, near 50, with stress wrinkles forming from the many times the Hacker and the other meat-bag have foiled her plans in some absurd, illogical ways. Essentially, Carrie-Anne Moss.

Age:
(There is no official timeline. One has been non-canonically collaborated.) SHODAN's creation is suspected in the year of 2065 and her destruction to be near 12 July 2114, which would make her around 49 years old.
